The Western Wind Vocal Sextet Presents Holiday Light – Joyous Music for The Holidays on December 8 at New York City’s Christ & St. Stephen’s Church

December 6, 2018

The Western Wind vocal sextet will present Holiday Light – Joyous Music for the Holidays on Saturday, December 8 at 8:00 PM at Christ & St. Stephen’s Church, 120 West 69th Street, in Manhattan.

Holiday Light! celebrates Christmas and Chanukah with a delightful assortment of Holiday music. Organized by themes, such as “Angels & Shepherds”, “Stars & Lights” & “Holiday Miracles” the program celebrates the deeper meaning of the stories, rituals and festivities of these two winter holidays.

The program features Renaissance & Baroque German Works by Hassler and Schütz, Early American and English Holiday Songs, Yiddish, Sephardic, and Hebrew Chanukah Songs, and music by Matthew Harris, Robert Dennis, Astor Piazzolla, Elliot Z. Levine, and Gayla Morgan.

Western Wind members are Linda Lee Jones and Gayla D. Morgan, sopranos, William Zukof, countertenor, Todd Frizzell, tenor, Eric Brenner, tenor/alto (substituting for David Vanderwal), and Paul An, bass. They will be joined by Patricia Davis on violin and Will Holshouser on accordion.

Tickets for the December 8 concert are $50 reserved seating, $35 general admission, $25 Student/Senior, and can be purchased online at http://www.westernwind.org/store.html?tix. For more concert information, please call 212-873-2848 or e-mail: info@westernwind.org.

2019 will mark the beginning of Western Wind’s 50th Anniversary and they’ll be celebrating with a concert/gala on March 23, 2109 at Merkin Hall in Manhattan. Since 1969, this internationally acclaimed vocal sextet has devoted itself to the special beauty and variety of a cappella music. The New York Times has called them, “A kaleidoscopic tapestry of vocal hues…” The Ensemble’s repertoire reveals its diverse background – from Renaissance motets to Fifties rock ’n’ roll, from medieval carols to Duke Ellington, from complex works by avant-garde composers to the simplest folk melodies.
