On Stage at Kingsborough Presents 2017-2018 Performing Arts Season Bringing World Class Artists to Brooklyn

FIESTA! A Special Performance Celebrating the Music of Latin America and Spain Featuring Acclaimed Soprano Larisa Martinez and 4 Cellos

 Tuesday, May 1, 2018 - 7:00PM

Brooklyn, New York – On Stage at Kingsborough, a leading performing arts presenter located at Brooklyn’s Kingsborough Community College is pleased to present its 2017-2018 season, featuring world class artists from around the globe. On Stage at Kingsborough brings top notch performing arts to Southern Brooklyn with an eclectic roster of artists spanning multiple genres including cabaret, dance, music, and family programming. The full season runs through May 19, 2018.

On Tuesday May 1, FIESTA!, a concert for four cellos and a soprano will celebrate the music of Spain, Brazil, Cuba, Argentina. MusicTalks host Elad Kabilio will present a rare collaboration of four cellos, featuring vocals from renowned Soprano Larisa Martinez. The performance will include Piazzola’s Tangos, traditional Spanish songs from De Falla, a Zarzuela from Lecuona, and will culminate with a performance of Villa Lobos’ masterpiece “Bachianas Brasileras.”

FIESTA! will take place at On Stage At Kingsborough’s stunning Lighthouse, featuring floor-to-ceiling views of the ocean. 

Highly praised for her warm quality of voice and unique timbre, soprano Larisa Martínez has established a strong and unique presence in classical performance world. Her concert appearances include Mahler’s Symphony No.4, Mozart’s Requiem in D minor and ‘Voci di Domani’ concert presented by Renata Scotto and recorded by Euroclassics in Rome, Italy.  In July 2016 she created the role of Isaura in the world premiere of Mercadante’s Francesca da Rimini conducted by Fabio Luisi in Martina Franca, Italy. Other roles in her repertoire include Gilda, Juliette, Adina, Norina, Susanna, Giulietta and Lucía di Lammermoor. Ms. Martínez is a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Audition PR district 2016, where she also received the Angel Ramos Foundation Award and the Audience Prize.

Elad Kabilio is a renowned Israeli cellist and founder of MusicTalks, an organization which breaks down the barriers between musicians and audience by taking advantage of the intimacy that the music provides. With engaging and interactive conversation, the listener is given an experience that truly makes Music Talk.

On Stage at Kingsborough (OSK) brings artistically and culturally diverse, multi-disciplinary performances from masters of the form to the varied communities within and surrounding Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn. We strive to create an environment where the arts are an accessible and integral part of life, and the Arts Center is a community gathering place for interaction and inspiration. We present world class dance, cabaret, theatre, music, and family performances in the Leon M. Goldstein Performing Arts Center and Kingsborough Community College’s Lighthouse from October to May, and our Hot Summer Nights! free outdoor concert series at Kingsborough Community College’s bandshell every July. Our school-time shows welcome classes from local public and private schools, a majority of which serves economically-disadvantaged or special needs populations. The 2017-2018 season reflects our commitment to present world-class artists in exclusive Brooklyn engagements.
