Emmanuel Music’s 2017-18 Season Features Aucoin, Harbison and Stravinsky, a Rare Complete Performance of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and a New Series

BOSTON ¦The solo virtuosic talent of Emmanuel Music’s highly acclaimed ensemble will be front and center this season. The orchestra, chorus and soloists will take on a rare complete performance of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio featuring all six cantatas starring 16 different soloists on December 16. The season will also include “Metamorphoses: Orpheus in Oedipus” featuring Matthew Aucoin’s “The Orphic Moment,” John Harbison’s “Symphony No. 5,” and Igor Stravinsky’s “Oedipus Rex” with the Harvard Glee Club on February 23. The performance will mark the 90th anniversary of the premiere of Stravinsky’s piece that featured the Harvard Glee Club and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, who commissioned the work. For Emmanuel Music’s performance the Harvard Glee Club will be joined by 12 male members of Emmanuel Music’s chorus.

Emmanuel Music’s season will also include:

• The fourth and final season featuring the chamber works of Felix Mendelssohn and Hugo Wolf - October 15 & 22, 2017, February 4 and April 29, 2018;

• The 47th season of the Bach Cantata Series - September 17, 2017 – May 13, 2018;

• A new series – Late Night at Emmanuel, features programs curated by members of the acclaimed Emmanuel Music ensemble. Expect the unexpected!

• A free six-concert Lindsey Chapel Series - Thursdays, February 15 – March 24, 2018; and

• Bach Institute, an intensive exploration of the history and performance of Bach arias and cantatas, under the guidance of Emmanuel Music faculty with recitals, master classes, and talks that are free and open to the public - January 2018.

Mendelssohn/Wolf Chamber Series, Year IV Sundays at 4 p.m. October 15 and 22, 2017; February 4 and April 29, 2018 Tickets: $30; $55; Students $10 Emmanuel Church, Boston Emmanuel Music’s fourth and final season exploring the chamber works of Felix Mendelssohn and Hugo Wolf includes Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 2 in C minor, op. 66 and Wolf’s “Spanisches Liederbuch” performed by members of the Emmanuel Music ensemble.

LINDSEY CHAPEL SERIES February 15 - March 22, 2018 at 12 noon Lindsey Chapel, Emmanuel Church, Boston ¦Free The series will feature six free concerts in the beautiful Leslie Lindsey Chapel explore the original works and transcriptions of J. S. Bach for lute.

THE BACH INSTITUTE January 4-22, 2018 Emmanuel Church, Boston ¦Free Conservatory and college students are invited by audition to this January residency for an intensive exploration of the history and performance of Bach arias and cantatas, under the guidance of Emmanuel Music faculty. Recitals, master classes, and talks are free and open to the public.

BACH CANTATA SERIES Sundays at 10 am September 17, 2017 – May 13, 2018 Emmanuel Church, Boston ¦Free Emmanuel Music continues its 47-year unique tradition of presenting Bach sacred cantatas with full orchestra, chorus, and soloists in a liturgical context at Emmanuel Church Sunday services.
