Divine Art Records - New Releases - November 2015
FROM DIVINE ART RECORDINGS GROUP
September 3, 2015
Liminal (Diversions ddv 24161) Erik Simmons (organ) and the Slovak National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Kirk Trevor
This is a mini-album (or very long EP) at lower price which contains three linked works by Carson Cooman, two for orchestra, with a ‘postlude’ for organ; all are atmospheric works of intensity and show the amazing talent of this still young composer.
‘Mersenne’s Clavichord’ (Divine Art dda 25134) Terence Charlston (clavichord)
A treat for early music fans, is this new recording by Terence Charlston who has had a long career at the very top of the early music scene in the UK. Here a fascinating selection of music from the 16th and 17th centuries is played on a unique clavichord, recently made to specifications laid out by Marin Mersenne in the 16th century. As not one original French clavichord has survived, this is genuinely the only recording to date which demonstrates the sound of the instruments as heard in France over 300 years ago.
