Juilliard Pianist Jie Yuan Performs Solo Works by Ligeti and Schubert, and Dvorák’s Piano Quintet No. 2 in A Major on His Artist Diploma Recital

Juilliard pianist Jie Yuan, a native of Changchun, China, performs György Ligeti’s Musica ricercata, Nos. 3, 8, and 10, early piano pieces by the Hungarian composer, composed in 1953; Schubert’s Four Impromptus, Op. 142; and Dvorák’s Piano Quintet No. 2 in A Major, Op. 81 on his Artist Diploma recital on Thursday, February 7 at 8 PM in Juilliard’s Willson Theater (155 West 65th Street, 3rd Floor, NYC). Juilliard’s Artist Diploma in Performance is a program for highly gifted and experienced performers at the post-master’s level.

Juilliard violinists Charles Yang and Julia Ahyoung Choi; violist Jenni Gi H. Seo; and cellist Jennifer Yunyoung Choi join Mr. Yuan in Dvorák’s Quintet No. 2 in A Major, Op. 81. Juilliard faculty member, violinist Sylvia Rosenberg, coached the ensemble.

About Jie Yuan

Chinese pianist Jie Yuan has performed with orchestras and in recital throughout all five continents. His orchestral appearances include: China National Symphony Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, Real Orquesta Sinfonica de Sevilla, Orchestra Philharmonique de Nice, Orchestre des Champs-Élysées, Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, Monteverdi Symphony Orchestra, Haydn Chamber Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, and Morocco Royal Philharmonic, among others. He has given numerous solo recital appearances in Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall in New York, Symphony Hall in Seattle, Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City, Salle Cortot Hall in Paris, National Performance Center and Grand Theater in Beijing, Culture Center and City Hall in Hong Kong, Performing Arts Center in Cairo, Oriental Performing Center in Shanghai, Esplanade Theatre in Singapore, Tokyo Shibuya Public Hall, and others. Mr. Yuan has been recognized by his country where he had been appointed National Arts Youth Ambassador of China and Artist of the Year by the Jilin Provincial Government in 2010. He pursued undergraduate studies and an Artist Diploma at Texas Christian University, where he studied with Tamas Ungar. He holds a master of music from Juilliard and studies with Dr. Yoheved Kaplinsky in Juilliard’s Artist Diploma program. Violinist Julia Ahyoung Choi is in the bachelor of music degree program at Juilliard, studying with Glenn Dicterow and Sally Thomas.

Violist Jenni Gi H. Seo is in the bachelor of music degree program at Juilliard. She studies with Heidi Castleman and Steve Tenenbom.

Cellist Jennifer Yunyoung Choi is in the bachelor of music degree program at Juilliard and studies with Richard Aaron.
