Eugen d'Albert International Music Competition Announces 2012 Winners

Lugano, Switzerland -- The 1st Eugen d'Albert International Music Competition (2012 for PIANO) has selected this year’s Competition Winners.

Sonya Bach of South Korea is the winner of the First and Grand Prize as well as the Eugen d'Albert Best Interpretation Award. Other prize winners include Chao Wang from China who won the Finalist's Award and Special Prize, and Alexander Yakovlev from Russia who won the Finalist’s Award.

Among 97 pianists from around the world 4 finalists were selected through video recording audition to come to Lugano, Switzerland to perfom two full recitals in two consecutive days before the screened jury. The screened and undisclosed panel of jurors included a number of renowned classical musicians as well as music industry professionals.

The Eugen d’Albert Society announced the winners of the Competition during the Closing Ceremony, which took place in the evening of 21st November at the Nuovo Studio Foce, Lugano, Switzerland.

The ceremony was organized by the Eugen d’Albert Society to commemorate d’Albert’s 80 years of anniversary of death with the support of the City of Lugano. After the Awards Ceremony, the prize winners offered a short recital.
