MEET THE ARTISTS

Talla Rouge

Viola duo Talla Rouge has it all – a dynamic and diverse repertoire, killer technique, and enough heart to make it all matter.
— I Care If You Listen

Talla Rouge boldly reimagines the landscape of classical music, fearlessly embracing a fusion of genres. The name Talla Rouge, meaning 'the Red-Gold' in both Farsi and French, pays homage to the rich Persian and Cajun heritages of American violists Aria Cheregosha and Lauren Spaulding. They are prize-winning innovators and the first ensemble-in-residence at Harvard’s Dumbarton Oaks.

For further evidence of the porous borders that lie between classical, contemporary, folk, pop and non-Western musics, look no further than Tallã Rouge […] for a musical journey that travels far and wide across 'genre-defying compositions' — Gramophone Magazine

Known for his genre-defying artistry as a soloist and member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silkroad Ensemble, Block brings masterful creativity and boundless versatility to each performance. His collaborations span the globe, from the exuberant fusion of Brazilian, hip-hop, jazz, and roots music with Birba Union, to the vibrant Malian-American dialogue of Djékady, co-founded with NEA Heritage Fellow Balla Kouyaté.

With the Mike Block Trio, he blends American roots traditions with global influences in performances praised for their energy and bold innovation.
