Jean-Claude Pennetier, Piano
A multi-faceted musician—composer, conductor, teacher, chamber player — Jean-Claude Pennetier is above all a remarkable soloist. His Downers Grove recital features music of Parisian composer Gabriel Fauré and the Polish born Frédéric Chopin, who moved to Paris as a young man, never to return to his native land. Pennetier has selected this special program to celebrate the bi-centennial of Chopin's birth (1810-2010), and to show the admiration the younger Fauré had for Chopin as evidenced by the many similarities found in their music.
Pennetier will play Chopin and Fauré on Sunday March 21st at 3PM in the Johnson Auditorium of Downers Grove North High School. The convenient location is 4436 Main Street, two blocks south of Ogden Avenue in Downers Grove. An educational pre-concert conversation introducing the program will be held at 2PM, moderated by music commentator and art historian Joshua Kind. Ample free off street parking is available. Individual tickets can be purchased the day of the event at the cost of $25 for adults and $10 for students (Grades 1 through 12). Credit cards, cash and personal checks are accepted. For more information please call 630-963-9093 or visit www.dgconcerts.org.
A child prodigy, Pennetier was enrolled at the age of six in the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, where he won first prizes in piano, chamber music and theory prior to turning eleven. He went on to take the First Prize in the Gabriel Fauré Competition at 18, First Prize in the International Montréal Competition at 23, and First Prize in the International Geneva Competition at 25.
In great demand for appearances with orchestra and in recital, Pennetier has performed with the Orchestre de Paris, the Staatkapelle of Dresden, NHK in Tokyo, and at festivals around the world. In recent seasons, he has toured with the orchestras of Lille, Pays de Savoie, and Poitou, and has performed with the Cannes and Limoges orchestras. Recital appearances have included Moscow, Munich, Copenhagen, and the major cities of Central America. Pennetier also records and tours worldwide as a member of the Paris Piano Trio ("Les Musiciens"). Since 2003 Pennetier has held the rank of Commandeur de Légion D’Honneur, the French government's highest honor for an artist.
