Communicating with Your Audience
During Edna’s 23 years as managing director of IMG Artists, she personally looked after the career of violinist, Itzhak Perlman and launched the careers of musicians such as pianists Evgeny Kissin and Lang Lang, violinist Hilary Hahn, and conductors Franz Welser-Mõst and Alan Gilbert.
Edna believes young musicians can grow their own careers, with “hard work, blind faith, passion for the cause, incessant networking and a vision that refuse[s] to be tarnished by naysayers.”

Emmanuel Music presents David Lang's 'The Little Match Girl Passion'
BOSTON¦ On April 27, Emmanuel Music under the direction of Ryan Turner will present David Lang’s Pulitzer prize-winning work, “The Little Match Girl Passion” at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. at Emmanuel Church in Boston. The 2007 work, based on a Hans Christian Andersen’s children’s book, tells the story of a poor girl whose father beats her, tries to sell matches on the street to survive, but freezes to death instead. Lang sets Andersen’s story in the format of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion. He intersperses Andersen’s narrative with his own versions of the crowd and character responses of Bach’s Passion. Emmanuel Music will present the original four vocalist version and add choreography from Boston Dance Theater under the direction of Jessie Jeanne Stinnett.
Emily Marvosh, contralto and curator of the program, says, “David Lang’s Pulitzer Prize-winning piece “The Little Match Girl Passion” is haunting in its simplicity but takes on a much deeper and complex meaning to those who know the St. Matthew Passion of J.S. Bach. Juxtaposed with dance, also an old art form that resonates with our humanity, this music becomes even more special. David’s music reminds us that we as humans are capable of cruelty, neglect, and deep sadness, but also changed by transcendent grace. Experience this mesmerizing piece in an intimate space, surrounded by human sounds and human movement.”
The performance is the second installment of the ensembles newest series, “Late Night at Emmanuel” that features one-hour programs curated by members of the ensemble and presented in a cabaret setting with food and drink.
