Leonia Chamber Musicians Society's Season Finale to Spotlight Latin American Flavor

(Bergen County, New Jersey; February 17, 2019) -- The Leonia Chamber Musicians Society, Inc., a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization, performs their season finale, 'March Winds', on Sunday March 3, 2019 at 7 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 150 Park Avenue in Leonia, New Jersey. This concert spotlights the sonority of the woodwind instruments playing music of stunning virtuosity with a Latin American flavor and a nod to the theater.

The Leonia Chamber Musicians Society's members Theresa Norris, flute and Marsha Heller, oboe are joined by Broadway's "Phantom of the Orchestra" members Atsuko Sato, bassoon and Norman Weiss, piano. The music includes Weiss' new composition, Six Bagatelles for Oboe, Bassoon and Piano; the Trio for Flute, Oboe, and Piano by Madeline Dring; Divertimento for Flute, Oboe and Bassoon by Juan Antonio Orrego-Salas; and the Duo for Flute and Bassoon by Heitor Villa-Lobos.

British composer and actress Madeline Dring was known for her lyrical writing, featuring the oboe in her compositions, as a tribute to her husband, who was the Principal Oboe for the London Symphony Orchestra. Chilean composer Juan Antonio Orrego-Salas taught at Indiana University, received the National Award of Musical Arts, and continues to compose and promote Latin American music. Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos utilized the vibrant rhythms and folk melodies of his native country.

Tickets are available for purchase at the door for $30 adults, $25 seniors, and students under age 18 are admitted free. Refreshments are served after the concert and the audience will have an opportunity to meet and greet the musicians.

This program is made possible in part by a grant administered by the Bergen County Department of Parks, Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs from funds granted by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. Additional supported is provided by the Frank & Lydia Bergen Foundation.
