For Immediate Release - New York, NY - On Site Opera, in partnership with MetLiveArts at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and American Lyric Theater, has been awarded a Female Composer Grant from Opera America to create and produce Lady Murasaki and the Tale of Genji, a one-act, site-specific opera composed by Michi Wiancko with a libretto by Deborah Brevoort. The opera will be premiered in spring 2019 in The Met’s Astor Court.

OSO have become industry-leaders with their adventurous, site-specific productions, including the recent performances of Ricky Ian Gordon's and William Hoffman’s Morning Star at the Eldridge Street Synagogue, Mozart’s The Secret Gardener in an NYC community garden, Milhaud’s Guilty Mother in a Hell’s Kitchen garage, and the world premiere of John Musto’s Rhoda and the Fossil Hunt at the American Museum of Natural History’s Hall of Saurischian Dinosaurs.

OSO will mount a re-staging of Mozart’s The Secret Gardener at Caramoor’s Sunken Garden on July 13, and then will co-produce the world premiere of Gregg Kallor’s Sketches from Frankenstein in the Catacombs of The Green-Wood Cemetery on October 10, 11, and 12, part of The Angel’s Share concert series. They will close the year with a mainstage production of Gian Carlo Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors at the Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen December 6-8, in partnership with Breaking Ground, New York City's largest provider of permanent supportive housing for the homeless. The production of Amahl and the Night Visitors will feature a chorus made up of community members who have experienced homelessness.
