New York City Opera Presents Lucia di Lammermoor - NYCO's Final Summer 2022 Show at Bryant Park Picnic Performances |

New York City Opera will present an abridged version of Donizetti's classic Lucia di Lammermoor on Friday, September 2, 2022 at 7pm as part of Bryant Park Picnic Performances presented by Bank of America. Think Romeo and Juliet but set in Scotland. Donizetti's brilliant score is the height of drama and the pinnacle of the Bel Canto style in this abridged version starring world-renowned soprano Sarah Coburn, the captivating tenor WooYoung Yoon, and the legendary bass-baritone Mark Delavan. It is directed by Shayna Leahy and conducted by City Opera Music Director Maestro Constantine Orbelian, The complete cast includes Coburn (Lucia), Delavan (Enrico), Yoon (Sir Edgardo di Ravenswood), Tair Tazhigulov (Raimondo Bidebent), Elissa Pfaender (Alisa), Ziwen Xiang (Arturo), and Samuel Ng (Normanno). |

Piano Masterclass by Daniel Levy |

Daniel Levy will be conducting a piano masterclass in September 2022 in Ascona, on the Swiss shores of Lake Maggiore, an ideal setting for music.
Levy, one of the most important exponents of the Vincenzo Scaramuzza school – who has received wide acclaim from the public and international critics for his musicality and technique – has dedicated his life to music, treasuring the teachings he received and manifesting them in concerts as a soloist, in chamber groups, with orchestra and lieder. He has combined pianistic knowledge with his own experience of the principles of Euphony and Listening to help musicians refine and channel their inspirational energy as the breath of Music and transformative act of life.
The masterclass is also open to pianists without a diploma.
Lesson languages: English, Italian and Spanish.

Women in Artistic Leadership in Classical Music - Virtual Panel Discussion |

Join ACSO for a discussion between visionary and accomplished artistic leaders working in classical music today. They will share the challenges and successes they’ve faced on their career journeys, discuss leadership philosophies, share thoughts on gender and power dynamics in our field, and talk about the role of education and mentorship in building a career pipeline for women. Furthermore, they will respond to the existential changes happening in our field, and discuss what they think the future may hold.

Composers Concordance and Composers Concordance Records present the album release of Gene Pritsker’s ‘Let’s Save the World Suite’. The seven-movement composition, based on three poems of Erik T. Johnson, is scored for a quintet of trumpet, saxophone, electric guitar, electric bass and drum set, with poet Erik T. Johnson reciting the poems in three of the movements. The music and poetry deal with our feelings toward the world in the past few years during the time of the pandemic, though not directly mentioning it. The music is inspired by jazz, music of various cultures, contemporary classical techniques and has an overall unique sound. Combining sonic elements that have very different personalities.

Soaring and searing brass works highlight the opening of the GSO’s 72nd dynamic season! Mahler’s Blumine was originally set as movement in his first symphony, before later being removed by the composer. Mexican composer Arturo Marquez’s Danzon No. 7 provides blasts of brass that will get your feet moving. To round out the program, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No 4 blazes to a fast and furious finish. |

The After Dinner Opera Company presents the New York and Orchestral Staged Premiere of the opera SACCO AND VANZETTI, begun by Marc Blitzstein and completed by Leonard Lehrman. Directed by Benjamin Spierman and conducted by Lehrman, the production features a cast of 35 singers and musicians. Christopher Remkus appears as Sacco and Michael Niemann as Vanzetti, two Italian immigrants at the center of a notorious case that drew worldwide attention. Wrongly accused of murder, the men were executed in 1927, only to be exonerated 50 years later. At the time of Blitzstein's tragic and unexpected death in 1964, the opera was left unfinished. Lehrman's completion was approved by the Blitzstein Estate and received raves at an earlier concertante premiere. |
