Alexander String Quartet performs Penderecki at Baruch PAC |
|
On Thursday May 2, 2019 at 8:00 pm, Baruch Performing Arts Center's renowned string quartet-in-residence since 1986, the Alexander String Quartet, performs music by Mozart, Penderecki, and Dvo?ák. Complete details and ticket information are below.
Capping off a day-long conference of lectures and panel discussions exploring the topic of Poland and the Jewish people, the Alexander String Quartet performs a recital featuring Krzysztof Penderecki’s poignant String Quartet No.3 “Leaves of an Unwritten Diary”. This work by Penderecki, "Poland's greatest living composer" (The Guardian), provides a window into the composer's memories, including a gypsy violin tune he heard his father play.
Also on the program is Mozart's String Quartet No. 16 in E flat major, K. 428 and Dvo?ák's String Quartet No. 12. Nicknamed the "American Quartet", the piece was written in 1893 during Dvo?ák's time in the U.S.
