New York Youth Symphony and Cellist Sterling Elliott at Carnegie Hall |

The New York Youth Symphony (NYYS) continues its 2019-2020 season with The McCrindle Concert, presented by the NYYS Orchestra on March 1 at 2pm, at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, led by Music Director Michael Repper. The concert features 2019 Senior Division Sphinx Competition winner and cellist Sterling Elliott performing Dvorak's Cello Concerto in B Minor as well as the world premiere of First Music commission The Sycamore and the Oak by composer Tanner Porter, and Respighi's Pines of Rome. Porter's piece is co-commissioned by the Interlochen Arts Academy, and was written in collaboration with students at the KIPP Academy Middle School in the Bronx. |

The Shalala MusicReach program at the Frost School of Music is preparing for their first ever Chamber Music Play-In, sponsored by the Associated Chamber Music Players. This event is being held as part of the ACMP Worldwide Play-In Weekend which celebrates Beethoven’s 250th Birthday!
“A play-in is an event where musicians meet, often for the first time, and “read” chamber music for pure pleasure…Play-ins are not performances, but some include non-playing listeners.” -ACMP. The Chamber Music Play-In MusicReach will host on March 1st invites musicians of all ages to join forces to create a musical day of collaboration and learning.

Oratorio Society of New York - Brahms: A German Requiem |

Kent Tritle conducts the 200-voice Oratorio Society of New York in the US premiere of a new critical edition of Johannes Brahms’s A German Requiem. Brahms authorities Michael Musgrave and Michael Struck led an international team of scholars to restore Brahms’s original intentions for his choral masterpiece, letting the work shine with new light. Soprano Susanna Phillips and baritone Takaoki Onishi join the chorus and the orchestra of the Society.

Composer, vocalist, and producer Lisa Bielawa will curate a residency at The Stone at The New School from March 10, 2020 through March 14, 2020, with performances at 8:30pm. The series, Bielawa: Blueprints, magnifies and dissects Bielawa's acclaimed large-scale projects, with performances of the intimate chamber-setting pieces she used to develop material for her larger works, including her made-for-TV opera Vireo, Broadcast series of works, and works for large orchestral and choral forces. Lisa Bielawa, a celebrated singer and long-time vocalist in the Philip Glass Ensemble, will be joined by flutist Alex Sopp, hornist Mike Atkinson, and pianist Molly Morkoski on March 12. |

Las Vegas Philharmonic Presents Kurt Weill's America |

Las Vegas Philharmonic will present the works of composer Kurt Weill on Saturday, April 4 at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. The program features some of Weill’s most revered works for the stage and concert hall including The Seven Deadly Sins, a satirical ballet chanté (sung ballet) composed and premiered in Paris in 1933 with text written by Bertolt Brecht and choreographed by George Balanchine. Vocalist Storm Large lends her distinctive vocal and performance prowess on the piece, which she has done with both the Portland and Detroit Symphonies to rave reviews. Other selections on the program include Weill’s Mack the Knife from The Threepenny Opera, Symphonic Nocturne from Lady in the Dark and his Symphony No. 2. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6:00 p.m. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy pre-concert entertainment, activities, treats and specialty cocktails.

Associated Chamber Music Players (ACMP)'s 2020 season continues with the brand-new Animato! mini-coaching chamber music video series, their annual Worldwide Play-in Weekend on March 7-8, and the third annual Livestream Masterclass on April 11. ACMP has commissioned award-winning composer Paul Moravec to compose a new piece for adult amateur players, entitled "Omne Trium Perfectum" (everything that comes in threes is perfect). This commission marks the first step in ACMP's initiatives to make contemporary chamber music more accessible to non-professional musicians.Composed with adult amateur players in mind, Morovec has comped a trio for violin, cello and piano. A second version for B flat clarinet, cello and piano is also available. Both versions can be purchased from the Subito Music Corporation catalog in March 2020, www.subitomusic.com. A limited number of copies are available free for ACMP members.

Sound Liberation takes the stage of Pianos on the lower east side to perform an eclectic set of compositions by Gene Pritsker. Including the world premiere of 'May The Great Ark Save The Drones' based on poetry of Robert C . Ford and the premiere of the instrumental 'Source'. Other compositions include 'The Misinformation Effect II' 'Strive' (with quotes from Benjamin Britten), the hip-hop anthems 'Money' and 'What We Got Here Now' as well as a groove version of George Gershwin' 'Nice Work If You Can Get It'. Sound Lib. will feature the vocals of baritone Charles Das Krooner' Coleman, soprano Julia Amisano, vocalist and rapper Paul 'The Pallbearer' Mack, sax great Jay Rodriguez , guitarist Greg 'B-Man' Baker, bassist Jose Moura and drummerJohn Ferrari, as well Gene ˜Noizepunk 'Pritsker on guitar and spitting some mean raps.
