InterHarmony Concert Series: Echoes of Paradise Lost |
|
InterHarmony International Music Festival opens the 6th season of the InterHarmony Concert Series at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall with Echoes of Paradise Lost on November 2 at 8PM.
Times change. The clock’s hands are poised to make circles, but depth of feeling has its hands still with a concentration of intensity that cannot be affected by the heartbeat of the universe. Featuring works by Shostakovich, Schnittke, Chopin, Prjevalskaya, and a New York premiere of newly discovered songs by James Simon, “Echoes of Paradise Lost” evokes the rare condition when different epochs, genres and crucial dramatic moments of humanity symbiotically grow together from the same tree of sounds, passages, and chords.
The InterHarmony Concert Series, started by Music Director Misha Quint, showcases performers from the InterHarmony festivals that take place each summer in Italy and Germany. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased online www.carnegiehall.org or by calling CarnegieCharge at 212.247.7800. |

US Premiere Tour of The Forgotten Kingdom — Sand Stories at Stockbridge Theatre |
|
Acclaimed international sand artist Kseniya Simonova (recent winner of Golden Buzzer on Britain's Got Talent 2019: The Champions) partners with the Guy Mendilow Ensemble (GME) to present the U.S. Premiere tour of The Forgotten Kingdom — Sand Stories from October 29 – November 12, 2019 through the United States.
In The Forgotten Kingdom, Simonova creates, morphs and obliterates sand imagery in real-time, crafting a captivating and soulful narrative of Sephardi women’s stories lost to war, driven by the Ensemble’s evocative music and radio-theatre-style storytelling.
Over the course of the evening, audiences travel through breathtaking landscapes of sand. With English narration and orchestration, the show renders both heart-wrenching and humorous scenes of daily life in Mediterranean communities from World War I and the Ottoman Empire’s collapse all the way to World War II. Referencing democratic hopes crushed by fascist regimes that cloaked entire communities in fear and oblivion, The Forgotten Kingdom |

CAG Presents: Invoke, multi-string quartet |
|
Described as “not classical…but not not classical” (David Srebnik, SiriusXM Classical Producer), Invoke continues to successfully dodge even the most valiant attempts at genre classification. The multi-instrumental band’s other “not-nots” encompass traditions from across America, including bluegrass, Appalachian fiddle tunes, jazz, and minimalism. Invoke weaves all of these styles together to create truly individual music written by and for the group.
