Pieces by Chopin, Ravel and Sung J. Hong round out the evening’s program. Born in Shanghai, China, the young virtuoso studied piano at the Shanghai Conservatory and later at the Manhattan School of Music. Of her Carnegie Hall performance this March, The New York Times wrote, "Even for the most gifted young pianist, it takes a lot to be noticed. Xiayin Wang... is clearly doing something right.” "I am deeply grateful for the many positive and encouraging reviews that have been written about my concerts,” Wang says. “I am extremely excited about my first trip to Washington D.C. and am looking forward to presenting Asian-American works and beautiful tunes from my hometown of Shanghai." The Virginia-based Palomino Entertainment Group produced Wang’s Carnegie Hall debut with the City Symphony, conducted by New York City Opera’s Music Director George Manahan. The success of that concert prompted a 12-city, nationwide tour, which kicked off in February. After her Meyer Auditorium appearance, Wang will play the Wertheim Performing Arts Center in Miami this October. Her second studio album of the music of Scriabin will be released on Naxos this fall.
