Brooklyn’s On Stage At Kingsborough Announces the 2017 HOT SUMMER NIGHTS! Free Outdoor Concert Series Enjoy the Best Swing Music under the Stars from Hollywood to New York City, with a stop on Bourbon Street in New Orleans

Every Saturday Evening July 1-22, 2017 8:00 PM   Brooklyn, New York – On Stage At Kingsborough, a leading performing arts presenter located at Brooklyn’s Kingsborough Community College presents its 2017 HOT SUMMER NIGHTS! Free Outdoor Concert series, featuring concerts under the stars every Saturday beginning July 1st and ending July 22nd. HOT SUMMER NIGHTS! will feature a wide range of outstanding swing bands, with unforgettable al-fresco concerts under the stars.

This season, start your Independence Day celebration with American Big Band Jazz with a patriotic flare! The Rob Stoneback Big Band with Guest Vocalists Kathy Jenkins & Rob Kevlin present “Swing out America!” You’ll hear patriotic favorites like “The Star Spangled Banner,” and “America the Beautiful,” alongside golden nuggets like “It Don’t Mean a Thing” and “Come Rain or Come Shine.” The Rob Stoneback Big Band has performed with Johnny Mathis, Aretha Franklin, and Natalie Cole, to name a few.

Join jazz great Wycliffe Gordon and His International All Stars as he pays tribute to the greatest jazz musician of all time, Louis Armstrong, while transporting listeners to Crescent City along New Orleans’ Bourbon Street with such Armstrong gems as “When the Saints Go Marchin’ In,” and “St. Louis Blues.” Wycliffe Gordon is a former member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, five-time winner of Downbeat Magazine Critics’ “Best Trombone” Award, and nine-time Jazz Journalist Association’s “Trombonist of the Year” Award-Winner.

Get ready for the heat with Hot Jazz from the Golden Age of Hollywood with Dan Levinson’s Gotham Sophisticats featuring vocalist Molly Ryan. Enjoy a starlit evening of silver screen melodies that Fred & Ginger danced to - and Bing romanced to. Pick yourself up, shake the blues away, put on the ritz, and step out with your baby - you’ll be carrying moonbeams home in a jar! Dan Levinson has played with Mel Tormé, Wynton Marsalis, Woody Allen, Leon Redbone, Vince Giordano's Nighthawks, and many more. He can be heard on numerous film soundtracks and on the Grammy-winning Boardwalk Empire.

Grab your favorite swing partner and join Swingadelic, known as New York City’s greatest “little big band,” as they deliver the traditional Big Band and Great American Songbook music of Frank Sinatra, Count Basie, Ray Charles, Dean Martin, and many more popular artists of the era in swingin’ style. Featuring Swing Dancers from The Rhythm Stompers. Swingadelic has recorded seven CDs that have been in the JazzWeek Radio charts top thirty, and garnered much critical acclaim. They have performed at Lincoln Center's Midsummer Night Swing, NJPAC, and numerous festivals, such as Bele Chere, MusikFest, and the CD 109 Jazz & Blues Festival.

We are a destination for all swingin’ New Yorkers, while providing local residents with access to great music right in their backyard. This summer’s HOT SUMMER NIGHTS! lineup features the hottest, most swingin’ artists, and we invite you to come dance under the stars and sway in the ocean breeze. It’s a perfect summer evening activity,” said Anna Becker, Executive Director of On Stage At Kingsborough.

GENERAL INFORMATION: All concerts take place at Kingsborough’s Lighthouse Bandshell, on the campus of Kingsborough Community College. Admission and parking is free and open to the public. Kingsborough’s gates open at 7:00 p.m. and the concerts begin at 8:00 p.m. Reservations are not necessary. A limited number of seats are available, but all are welcome to bring blankets and folding chairs for our grassy areas as well.

Rain Location: In the event of inclement weather, the concerts will be relocated to the air conditioned Leon M. Goldstein Performing Arts Center. Updated location information will be available on our box office line - (718) 368-5596 - starting at 4:00 p.m. on concert days.

Picnic Information: To complete a gorgeous night of great music in a friendly community setting, our gates open at 7:00 p.m. and picnicking is welcomed. Sandwiches, chips, ice cream, and beverages will be available for sale.

DIRECTIONS: By Car: AMPLE, FREE PARKING is available and we are just minutes from Exit 8 off the Belt Parkway. By Bus: Take the B1 or B49 bus straight to our entrance. By Subway: Take the B, Q, F, D, or N and transfer to the B1 bus for a short ride to our entrance.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER: On Stage At Kingsborough (OSK) brings artistically and culturally diverse, multi-disciplinary performances from masters of the form to the varied communities within and surrounding Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn. We strive to create an environment where the arts are an accessible and integral part of life, and the Arts Center is a community gathering place for interaction and inspiration. We present world-class dance, cabaret, theatre, music, and family performances in the Leon M. Goldstein Performing Arts Center and Kingsborough’s Lighthouse from September to May, and our HOT SUMMER NIGHTS! free outdoor concert series at The Lighthouse Bandshell every July. Our school-time shows welcome classes from local public and private schools, a majority of which serves economically-disadvantaged or special needs populations.
