LACO's Baroque Conversations Program Features Bach, Marais and Biber, Plus Jeffrey Kahane on Harpsichord
Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra’s (LACO) Baroque Conversations series concludes with Assistant Concertmaster Tereza Stanislav leading a program of Bach, Marais and Biber and featuring LACO Music Director Jeffrey Kahane on harpsichord on Thursday, April 13, 2017, 7:30 pm, at Zipper Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles. The works include Bach’s Violin Sonata No. 3 in E major, and Marais' Sonnerie de Ste. Geneviève du Mont-de-Paris. Also featured are three of Biber’s Rosary Sonatas, each representing one of the Mysteries of the Catholic Rosary – The Visitation, No. 2; The Crucifixion, No. 10; and Passacaglia, No. 16. She is joined by Kahane and LACO artists Andrew Shulman, cello, and Patricia Mabee, harpsichord. Stanislav also moderates a post-concert Q&A.
Stanislav, applauded for her “sure technique and musical intelligence” (Calgary Herald) and “brilliant phrasing, uncannily pointed rhythm and pure intonation” (Huffington Post), has appeared at the Library of Congress, Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall and Wigmore Hall with such artists as Jean-Yves Thibaudet, the Miró Quartet and Jon Kimura Parker. She has premiered Gunther Schuller’s Horn Quintet and Louis Andriessen’s The City of Dis and is featured on a soon-to-be released a CD in collaboration with pianist Hung-Kuan Chen.
The enlightening five-concert Baroque Conversations series provides insight into the genesis of orchestral repertoire from early Baroque schools through the pre-classical period. Baroque Conversations is generously sponsored by Carol & Warner Henry, a Friend of LACO and the Ronus Foundation.
