On Friday, June 17th at 6:30pm, Composers Concordance presents the contemporary music concert 'Happy Birthday Otto Luening,' to be held at Faust Harrison Pianos in midtown. Otto Luening (June 15, 1900 - September 2, 1996) was a pioneer of electronic music whose notable career as a composer, conductor, flutist, and teacher spanned much of the 20th century. In celebration of Luening's life and music, pianists Jai Jeffries, Geoff Burleson, and Eduard Laurel will perform several of Luening's compositions, including 'Dance Sonata' (1928,) 'The Bells of Bellagio' (1967,) and 'Chords at Night' (1988.) The program will also feature compositions by several of Luening's students, protégés, and colleagues, including George Boziwick, Gloria Coates, Dan Cooper, David Shohl, and Dave Soldier, among others. In addition, Eduard Laurel will perform Gene Pritsker's 'Prelude and Fugue #1,' and Jai Jeffries will premiere a new work for piano and electronics by Svjetlana Bukvich. The concert will be followed by a brief reception.
