Victoria Bond

On April 6 at 8pm, Cutting Edge Concerts New Music Festival opens with the festival's debut at the downtown hotspot SubCulture featuring the "simply first-rate" (The New York Times) American Modern Ensemble. American Modern Ensemble and Cutting Edge Concerts New Music Festival join forces to share their love of music by living composers on a program full of premieres celebrating American Modern Ensemble's 10th anniversary season.

The program features the world premiere of "Skylights" by Robert Paterson and the New York premieres of "Fractured Mirrors" by Nicolas Sherzinger, "Road Show for Otto" by Carl Schimmel, and "ShapeShifter" by Mark Winges. The program also includes "The Visitor" by Paul Frucht and a new arrangement of "Instruments of Revelation" by Victoria Bond.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $30 the day of the performance, available at subculturenewyork.com or at the box office (212) 533-5470.

Cutting Edge Concerts New Music Festival features established as well as emerging composers performed by leading new music ensembles and soloists. Onstage discussions between each composer and artistic director Victoria Bond give special insight into the composer and the music. For more information about the festival, visit CuttingEdgeConcerts.org.

In addition to the festival's debut with American Modern Ensemble at SubCulture, Cutting Edge Concerts' 18th season includes three concerts at Symphony Space: a Thomas Jefferson Birthday Bash (April 13) featuring violinist Frank Almond and the Sirius Quartet performing world premieres, the Cutting Edge Concerts debut of Miho Hazama's  m_unit jazz ensemble (April 20) and pianist Paul Barnes, and a staged workshop performance of Victoria Bond's opera Clara, inspired by the life of Clara Schumann (April 27) featuring The Gramercy Trio.

Robert Paterson

Founded in New York City in 2005 by Robert Paterson and Victoria Paterson, American Modern Ensemble is a dynamic, creative force in the modern music scene. A world-class ensemble made up of NYC's finest musicians, AME has performed works by over 150 living composers in venues ranging from Lincoln Center to The Roulette, and has "consistently demonstrated a flair for inventive programming" (Steve Smith, Time Out New York).
