European Premiere of Judith Shatin’s Spring Tides for Chamber Ensemble Presented on September 18

Judith Shatin’s Spring Tides, scored for amplified Pierrot Ensemble (flute, clarinet, violin, cello and piano) and interactive electronics will be given its European Premiere by the dissonArt ensemble on Thursday, September 18 – 6:00 PM as part of the International Computer Music Conference 2014 in Athens, Greece.
The composer writes, “Spring Tides was inspired by the pull of the moon and sun on the flow of the tides, highest when the moon and sun are directly lined up with the earth. The very highest, or spring tides, occur when the moon is either full or new, and the gravitational pull of moon and the sun are combined.” Read the complete notes for the piece at http://judithshatin.com/spring-tides/.
The Thessaloniki-based ensemble dissonArt was founded in 2005 with the intention to disseminate the stylistic diversity of new music in Greece as well as internationally. Following the model of similar contemporary orchestral groups, the ensemble is organized around a core of 6 soloists and associated partners, with a flexible internal structure. Orchestras that have performed her music include the Denver, Houston, Virginia, Illinois, Knoxville, Minnesota, National and Richmond Symphonies. Her chamber and choral music is internationally performed and has been featured at festivals throughout North America and Europe. She has been commissioned by organizations and ensembles including the Barlow Foundation, Fromm Foundation, Kronos Quartet, Library of Congress, National Symphony, the Dutch Hexagon Ensemble, the Peninsula Women’s Chorus and the San Francisco Girls’ Chorus.
Innova Records has issued Judith Shatin's Time to Burn CD (http://www.innova.mu/albums/judith-shatin/time-burn), with a combination of chamber and electroacoustic music performed by the Cassatt Quartet, violist James Dunham, pianist Margaret Kampmeier and others. Her music can also be heard on the Ravello, Etcetera, Capstone, Centaur, Neuma, New World and Sonora labels. She is currently William R.
