La Cetra Barockorchester & Vokalensemble in Basel, Switzerland has appointed Chandler Cudlipp as its new Managing Director. Chandler Cudlipp’s broad experience has taken him from positions of artistic and management leadership with the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich to the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic, the Detroit Symphony, the Zurich Opera and the Zurich Chamber Orchestras as well as to the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.

La Cetra Barockorchester Basel was established in 1999 and has been under the artistic leadership of Andrea Marcon since 2009. Andrea Marcon is internationally recognized as one of the foremost specialists in Baroque and early Classical repertoire. His concerts and recordings with La Cetra are recognized for their freshness, pulsating energy and historical accuracy augmented by the most recent informed research emerging from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, one of the worlds leading institutions for early music research and study. Joining the orchestra for much of is repertoire is the La Cetra Vokalensemble which was initiated by Andrea Marcon in 2012.

The orchestra, whose members are for the most part graduates of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, has garnered consistent praise from both the public and the press. Its repertoire extends from the early Baroque through to the Classical period – from Bach and Monteverdi to Haydn, Mozart and early Beethoven. The orchestra is in residence for one or two productions each season at the Theater Basel where it has made a major contribution to the recognition of the theatre as a leader in the performance of Baroque opera. Upcoming productions include Marc-Antoine Charpentiers Médée staring Magdalena Kozena and a production with the Basel Ballet of Vivaldi’s Juditha Triumphans.

In addition to concerts at home and in the major European concert halls, the orchestra has made a number of highly praised recordings, most recently on the Deutsche Grammophon label. A rare re-discovery, Antonio Caldara’s Serenade “La concordia de’ pianeti” will be released in the fall. Other recording projects with the DG label are in the planning stages. For the 2014/15 season the orchestra is a Cultural Partner with the Händel Festival in Halle (Saale) where they recently performed Händel’s little know Serenade “Parnasso in festa” with resounding success. They return there in November for a Gala concert honouring Magdalena Kozena.
