Dubbed by critics as the next heir to the Great Russian Tradition of pianists, 24 year-old Alexander Romanovsky, who at the age of eleven was touring as soloist with Vladimir Spivakov and the Moscow Virtuosi, first attracted international attention at the age of fifteen when he was awarded an "Honoris Causa Doctorate" from the Royal Philharmonic Academy of Bologna. An honour that, at such an early age, was bestowed upon only two other musicians: Mozart and Rossini. Grand Prize winner of the International “Ferruccio Busoni” Piano Competition at the age of seventeen, Alexander Romanovsky made his US debut in July, 2009 at the Newport Music Festival, of which the Arts Journal wrote: “Not since Andrei Gavrilov made his debut here in the mid-1970’s has there been a more thrilling recital… This was among the best performances I’ve ever heard of this difficult score (Rachmaninoff’s B-Flat Minor Sonata), on the record or off.”

The newly released CD joins Romanovsky’s highly-praised first recording for the DECCA label of Schumann’s “Symphonic Etudes, Op.13” and Brahms’ “Variations on theme by Paganini” which has been proclaimed “a signature of talent” by the Italian Suonare News.

The CD was recorded in Berlin and produced by the Italian subsidiary of Decca, Universal Classics, a division of Universal Music Italia, s.r.l.

His overwhelming critical acclaim praises the young pianist’s “mature and clear interpretation” (Sergio Cimarosti, Il Piccolo-), “frightening technique” (Chiara Zocca, La Repubblica -), “extraordinary talent” (Silvio Montaguti, Il Gazzettino -), “soaring artistry” (Landa Ketoff, La Repubblica -), “sophisticated taste” (Carlo Maria Giulini), and simply declares Romanovsky: “not just a pianist... a genius”, (Jack Buckley, Il Foglio). Having shown an extraordinary musical talent since childhood, Romanovsky gave his concerto debut at the age of nine, and was touring as soloist with Vladimir Spivakov and the Moscow Virtuosi by age eleven, performing in Kiev, the Baltic States, France, as well as with the St. Petersburg Orchestra.

Upon moving to Imola, Italy to study with Leonid Margarius, protégé of Regina Horowitz - sister of the legendary Vladimir - Romanovsky had bestowed upon him an honor that at the age of fifteen was only received by two other musicians before him - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Gioacchino Rossini: Romanovsky was awarded an "Honoris Causa Doctorate" from the Royal Philharmonic Academy of Bologna for his awe-inspiring interpretation of Bach’s Goldberg Variations. Two years later, at the remarkable ago of only seventeen, Romanovsky claimed the top prize of the renowned International “Ferruccio Busoni” Piano Competition, furthering his reputation as one of the leading young pianist of the present day.

Notably, Romanovsky is scheduled this fall to give his debut at both the Wigmore Hall and Barbican Center in London. The latter being with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Warren-Green conducting.

In July of this year, Alexander Romanovsky gave his highly-awaited US debut at the Newport Music Festival where his success seemed to be unparalleled, and critical acclaim poured in the next day: “…a flawless technique, a huge sound and sweeping musical vision… This was among the best performances I’ve ever heard of this difficult score (Rachmaninoff’s B-Flat Minor Sonata), on the record or off” - wrote Channing Gray on Providence Journal.
