Juilliard Musicians to Perform in Austin, TX

May 25, 2017 | By Thomas West
Performer and Marketing Director at Thomas West Arts
For Immediate Release:

Austin, TX; May 25, 2017

Juilliard educated musicians Thomas West (baritone) and Matthew Maimone (piano) will present a free recital at Brookdale Gaines Ranch in Austin, TX on Saturday, May 27th at 2:00 PM. The recital continues an annual tradition of West bringing his work in New York to the Gaines Ranch community. This year's program is entitled Boat Trip: A Musical Travelogue, and will explore classical music spanning four centuries and six countries.

What started three years ago as a way to sing a few songs for family and friends has now become a beloved Gaines Ranch tradition. "There's something so special about performing at the Ranch, said West, it reminds me of the power the arts have to bring people together." Thomas West, baritone, who has been described as a "miraculous...nuanced singer (Boston Musical Intelligencer)," is a creative artist and entrepreneur whose work spans everything from premiering opera to curating interdisciplinary theatrical concerts. Recent career highlights include the world premiere of Wayne Oquin's Meditation in Alice Tully Hall and Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. In 2014, he was named a Presidential Scholar in the Arts by President Obama.

Solo and Collaborative Pianist, Matthew Maimone has performed in venues across the United States including Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Bargemusic, and Guild Hall. He has won awards from the Julia Crane International Piano Competition, the Golden Key Festival, the American Fine Arts Festival and many others. In 2007, he established the Vladimir Nielsen Foundation to provide pianos and training for gifted young pianists on Long Island.

Saturday's program will feature a departure from previous Austin programs, as the concert will feature solo piano works as well as song. "Matthew is an extraordinary collaborative partner," said West. "He is as comfortable playing an art song as he is a Stravinsky Etude, a rare combination. Together, we hope to enrich the concert experience by exposing the audience to multiple facets of the classical genre from the time of Beethoven to the present."

The address for the venue is: 4409 Gaines Ranch Loop, Austin TX 78735. Admission is free and the performance begins at 2 PM.
