Meira Warshauer’s Figment, a setting of a poem by Jack Burkheimer will be presented on Friday. February 12 at 6:00 PM as part of Giving Voice to the Unheard, a lecture-recital by Samantha Crandall at the University of South Carolina School of Music, 813 Assembly Street in Columbia.

The piece will be performed by Samantha Crandall, soprano, Aubrey Nelson, flute, Jonathan Pizarro, cello and Solomon Eichner, piano. Music of Tchaikovsky and Mozart will also be presented. More about Figment at http://meirawarshauer.com/works/figment.

Jack Burkheimer has become a poetic spokesperson for the homeless community in Columbia. His poem, “Figment,” eloquently portrays his experience living on the street, and routinely being ignored by passers-by, as if he were not even there.

Musicians and artists in Columbia, S.C. have previously targeted homelessness with a concert series, Light the Way - each concert benefiting a different homeless outreach.

This concert is free and open to the public. For more information, visit http://meirawarshauer.com/events/lecture-recital-addressing-homelessness/.

Meira Warshauer has devoted much of her creative output to Jewish themes and their universal message and her work also reflects a love and concern for the earth. The Navona label has released a CD (NV5842) featuring her Symphony No.1: Living Breathing Earth and Tekeeyah (a call), concerto for shofar, trombone and orchestra with soloist Haim Avitsur. More about the CD at http://meirawarshauer.com/discography/living-breathing-earth/. Albany Records had previously released her acclaimed Streams in the Desert disk of Torah-based choral/orchestral works. Warshauer's music is published by Hildegard, Lauren Keiser Music, World Music Press and Kol Meira Publications. Her website is at http://www.meirawarshauer.com.
