Recording News from Divine Art: New Symphony Recording

Recording News from Divine Art: New Symphony recording

Following the successful release of four albums of music (chamber, organ, and orchestral) by prolific American composer Carson Cooman, a new ‘mini-album’ is to be produced featuring a triptych of works centered on Cooman’s Fourth Symphony ‘Liminal’. The work is scored for orchestra without woodwind, but with two harps one of which is tuned down a quarter tone creating an ‘edge’ of tension against the relatively conventional harmonic structure of the work and creates a gripping and intense soundworld. Kirk Trevor conducts the Slovak National Symphony Orchestra in the Symphony and in the opening work ‘Shoreline Rune’; the ‘postlude’ is a striking work for organ played by Erik Simmons.

‘Liminal’ will be released on the Diversions label (DDV 24161) in November. The label describes the product as a mini-album (35 minutes) and so offers it at midprice recalling the ‘Medium-Play’ albums of the 1950s!
