The Cecilia Chorus of New York Presents A Cappella Extravaganza Concert on March 1 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Manhattan

New York, NY – The Cecilia Chorus of New York, Mark Shapiro, Music Director, will present A Cappella Extravaganza, a concert on Sunday, March 1 at 3:00 PM at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 316 East 88th St., between First and Second Aves. in Manhattan.
The Cecilia Chorus of New York, with guest artists C4, the Choral Composer/Conductor Collective, winners of the 2014 ASCAP/Chorus America Award for Adventurous Programming, will present a program of contemporary choral sounds, interwoven with a selection of a cappella masterworks from Tudor England.
Tickets for the March 1 concert are $25 in advance, $30 at the door, and can be purchased online at http://www.ceciliachorusny.org/tickets/.

The Cecilia Chorus of New York, a secular chorus, was founded in 1906 by Metropolitan Opera coach Victor Harris. Since its founding, the Chorus has evolved into one of the finest avocational performing arts organizations in New York City. Recent performance highlights have included the commission and premiere of Tom Cipullo’s Credo for a Secular City at Carnegie Hall in Spring 2014, the New York premiere of the Mass in D (1892) by Dame Ethel Smyth and revivals of works by Peter Mennin and Isabella Leonarda, as well as the Chorus’s first-ever commission/premiere for Carnegie Hall, Divis Cetera by Raphael Fusco in 2012. The Cecilia Chorus of New York was awarded third place for The American Prize in Choral Performance in 2013.
Music Director Mark Shapiro was appointed the seventh Music Director of The Cecilia Chorus of New York in 2011. He is one of a handful of artistic leaders in North America to have won a prestigious ASCAP Programming Award four times, achieving the unique distinction of winning such an award with more than one ensemble.
