Recording News: Extending Divine Arts’ Russian Piano Music Series

After an 18-month pause due to other project commitments, the critically praised Russian Piano Music series from Divine Art Recordings Group is moving forward in 2015. The company is delighted to have signed the wonderful Russian pianist Natalia Andreeva, who is recording the complete piano music of Galina Ustvolskaya. This will be volume 11 of the Russian Piano Music series, and should be scheduled for release around September or October of this year.

Ustvolskaya’s music is thoroughly recognizable as 20th century Russian/Soviet though it is in no way short of inspiration or variety: the difference in stylistic approach between the earliest Sonata of 1947 to the last, composed in 1988, is considerable. Her music is characterized by drama, dense and complex chords and a sense of tension.

Natalia Andreeva graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov Music College and the Saint Petersburg Conservatorium of Music, afterwards moving to Australia where she currently lectures in piano studies at the Sydney Conservatoire; she also performs regularly in the Sydney area. Andreeva has direct connections with the composer through her teacher Vladimir Radchenkov, a pupil of Ustvolskaya, and has concentrated on making her interpretations the most authentic and informed by the composer’s intentions. Her Doctorate was obtained in Piano Performance centred on the work of Ustvolskaya.

The new recording contains the six Piano Sonatas and the 12 Preludes (composed 1953).

END.
