Joelle Wallach's The Wreath of Silver Birds Performed by 2Flutes on September 23 at St. Peter’s Church in New York, New York

Joelle Wallach's The Wreath of Silver Birds will be performed by 2Flutes – Pamela Sklar and Laura Falzo on Tuesday, September 23 - 8:00 PM at Saint Peter’s Church, 619 Lexington Avenue at 54th Street (at the Citicorp Center) in Manhattan.

The composer writes, “The Wreath of Silver Birds was written in 1995 as an outdoor work for solo piccolo in honor of the 95th birthday of composer Otto Luening, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Virginia Center for the Creative Art’s new timpani-topped gazebo. “ Read her complete program notes and see a score sample at http://joellewallach.com/composition/a-wreath-of-silver-birds/.

The September 23 program also features music from the Renaissance through today, with works by other New York-area composers, including the World Premiere of Pamela Sklar’s Flashes of Inspiration and Joy for flute, bass flute and Native American flute. Joelle Wallach composes music for orchestra, chamber ensembles, solo voices and choruses. The New York Philharmonic Ensembles premiered her octet, From the Forest of Chimneys, written to celebrate their 10th anniversary; and the New York Choral Society commissioned her secular oratorio, Toward a Time of Renewal, for 200 voices and orchestra to commemorate their 35th Anniversary Season in Carnegie Hall. Her String Quartet 1995 was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in Music. Wallach's early training in piano, voice, theory, bassoon and violin included study at the Juilliard Preparatory Division. In 1984 the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied with John Corigliano, granted her its first doctorate in composition.

Dr. Wallach served as Composer in the Metropolis as part of her Con-Edison Music in the Metropolis Composer Residency at New York City’s Turtle Bay Music School in Fall 2013.
