FROM DIVINE ART RECORDINGS GROUP
August 14, 2014
In Beauty Walking (dda 25117) Leah Crane (soprano); Chloé Trevor (violin); Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Kirk Trevor
An album of new music for string orchestra in which Cooman has found and developed the quintessential English pastoral sound of Delius, Vaughan Williams and Finzi. This is unashamedly Romantic music of exceptional beauty.
Rimsky-Korsakov for Piano Duo (dda 25118) Anthony Goldstone & Caroline Clemmow
Britain’s top piano duo present Rimsky-Korsakov’s most famous work, Scheherazade, in his own piano duet version. This like ‘Neapolitan Song’ was previously available on a Gamut disc long deleted. Accompanying them is a brand new recording of the exotic ‘Antar’, which was transcribed by the composer’s wife, Nadezhda Purgold, an accomplished arranger and composer.
The Harmonious Thuringian (dda 25122) Terence Charlston (harpsichord)
One of Britain’s leading early music instrumentalists, Terence Charlston has recorded this program of music from around the 1700 -1720 era by Bach, Handel and several of their contemporaries. The instrument is exceptional – a replica of the sole surviving Thuringian harpsichord, housed in the Eisenach Bachhaus, which is thought by scholars to be the type of instrument familiar to Bach and Handel who grew up in that area. Its sound is quite unlike the typical harpsichord used today and marvelously suited to this music.
