Quintet of the Americas Presents Tone and Color Concert on April 24 at Community Mediation Services in Jamaica, Queens

New York, NY – Quintet of the Americas will present Tone and Color, a concert on Thursday, April 24 – 1:00 PM at Community Mediation Services, 89-64 163rd Street in Jamaica, Queens. There will be a pre-concert discussion about the music at 12:30 that day.

Quintet of the Americas, the woodwind quintet widely-known for its performances of music from Latin America, will perform Three Colors by Marcus Redden, Quintet by John Steinmetz (with references to medieval music), Goldfinch Variations by Douglaston-based composer James Cohn, Lejano azul (Distant Blue) by Luis Calvo, Tangos and more.

Internationally known Quintet of the Americas is Queens’ own premiere woodwind quintet. Founded in Bogota, Colombia in 1976, the Quintet has specialized in bringing music from the Western hemisphere to audiences in the United States since its arrival in New York in 1979. The group has enjoyed an international career that has taken them to concert halls throughout the Americas and Eastern Europe, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, and the Library of Congress. Members of the Quintet are Karla Moe, flute, Matt Sullivan, oboe, Nicholas Gallas, clarinet, Barbara Oldham, horn and Gina Cuffari, bassoon. They are currently in residence in The Department of Music and Performing Arts in The Steinhardt School at New York University.
