Edward Klorman states, “At its heart, the Center for Music Entrepreneurship is about helping students to cultivate the skills and mindset to see a world of possibilities and innovation once they graduate. I am honored to assume this challenging new role at MSM.”

Edward Klorman brings his experience as both a professional musician and the founder of an innovative music festival to his new role as Director of Manhattan School of Music’s Center for Music Entrepreneurship. An accomplished violist and educator, he has been recognized for his efforts to engage new audiences in American Record Guide and Alex Ross’s blog, “The Rest is Noise.”

As co-founder of the Canandaigua Lake Music Festival in upstate New York, Mr. Klorman helped establish Classical Blue Jeans, a series of interactive concerts designed for patrons who are new to classical music. With its inventive approach to programming, the festival has received support from the National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts, and the New York State Music Fund. He has participated in educational outreach programs at The Juilliard School and the Music@Menlo Winter Residency, among other venues, and was invited to be a guest speaker by the Academy – a program of Carnegie Hall, The Juilliard School, and The Weill Music Institute.

An avid chamber musician, Mr. Klorman is a founding member of the Tessera Quartet and has performed as guest artist with the Borromeo, Corigliano, Orion and Ying Quartets. He collaborates regularly with the composer Lowell Liebermann. He recently made his New York City concerto debut performing Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante with the violinist Stefan Jackiw and the Camerata Notturna orchestra.

Edward Klorman graduated with distinction from The Juilliard School and is currently completing a Ph.D. from the City University of New York, funded by a prestigious Jacob K. Javits fellowship. He has presented lectures and master classes integrating music performance and the historical imagination at the Salzurg Mozarteum, Universite de Montreal, Aspen Music Festival, and the International Viola Society. He was recently elected to the board of the American Viola Society.
