Enric Mtz-Castignani Returns to the Gran Teatre del Liceu

May 17, 2012 | By 3C Media Artists
May 2012 – After two seasons without being able to include on the schedule his hometown theater, the baritone Enric Martinez-Castignani is back to commemorate the birth’s Centenary of X. Montsalvatge. He will be playing the King of "El Gato con Botas" ("Puss in Boots") by the same composer that he debuted at the Teatro Real. With him will be Marisa Martins and Mariluz Martínez, all conducted by maestro Antoni Ros Marbà. The sets are from Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada and the staging is by Emilio Sagi. The performances will be on 19, 26 and 27 May.

This opera written for adult audience, according to the same composer, based on the story by Perrault, was already recorded by the Italian-Spanish baritone for Columna Música with the Orchestra of the Gran Teatro del Liceo and he was nominated to a Grammy Award for this release.

This commitment is significant for Enric Martinez-Castignani in relation to two key issues. First of all, because of his involvement with the contemporary Spanish composers, as he recently shown with the placing on the market of the successful "Memento Solidarity CD" with music by Miquel Ortega. Second is that it represents the return to a Spanish stage with a role of the bufo repertoire that has garnered him so much success, and will show once again that he is the best Spanish singer of his generation in this repertoire and one of the most prominent in Europe.
