Details of the July 7 event, part of the 12th <a href=\"https:\/\/www.g20.org\/Webs\/G20\/EN\/Home\/home_node.html\">G20 Summit<\/a>, were announced Wednesday by a spokesman for <em>Bundeskanzlerin<\/em> Angela Merkel. A classical-music fan and the summit\u2019s host, Merkel reportedly chose the program herself. Among summit attendees known to enjoy good music: French president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicalamerica.com\/mablogs\/?p=38986\">Emmanuel Macron<\/a> and Russian president Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianekarg.com\/index.php\/de\/\">Christiane Karg<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Okka_von_der_Damerau\">Okka von der Damerau<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.klaus-florian-vogt.de\/\">Klaus Florian Vogt<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/imgartists.com\/roster\/franz-josef-selig\/\">Franz-Josef Selig<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.staatsoper-hamburg.de\/en\/people\/choir\/chorus.php\">Hamburg State Opera Chorus<\/a> will sing Schiller\u2019s words; the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.staatsorchester-hamburg.de\/de\/orchester\/geschichte.php\">Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg<\/a> will be led by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.osm.ca\/fr\/kent-nagano\/\">Kent Nagano<\/a>. Beethoven\u2019s \u201cOde to Joy\u201d theme, without the words, is the official <a href=\"https:\/\/europa.eu\/european-union\/about-eu\/symbols\/anthem_en\">anthem<\/a> of the European Union; in the \u201cuniversal language of music,\u201d the anthem expresses \u201cEuropean ideals of freedom, peace and solidarity.\u201d An on-site dinner is scheduled before the performance.<\/p>\n<p>Starting the day before, the Elbphilharmonie will become a <em>Sicherheitszone<\/em>, or security area \u2014 as will the full local width of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/place\/Elbe-River\">Elbe River<\/a>, three adjacent quays, the airspace, and much of central Hamburg \u2014 to prepare for the concert venue\u2019s role as an \u201cofficial meeting place for the heads of state and government\u201d taking part in the summit. Hamburg police expect \u201caround 8,000 violent demonstrators.\u201d G20 delegations are due to arrive that day; Trump and Putin will be meeting for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>The G20, or Group of Twenty, comprises 19 countries plus the E.U. It accounts for 80% of global economic output in terms of GDP, adjusted for purchasing-power parity. In 2015, China\u2019s GDP was around 19.7 billion \u201cinternational dollars,\u201d so adjusted, making it the largest economy in the world, followed by the United States, India and Japan.
