Images accompanying the aural experience are terrific, when done so appropriately. I remember playing Ellen Zwilich's 'Peanuts Gallery' with images of the Charles M. Schulz characters illustrated on an over-head screen above the orchestra. I am thinking of a new project to commission a composer to compose 'The Planets: Odyssey for Piano and Orchestra' as a partner work to the famous Holst 'Planets'--but with images to accompany the work--or potentially a film portraying the piece starting with the Big-Bang, the emerging sum (main theme) and the pianist as time traveler through the Solar System.
