I used to have a terrible time with this. Coming from a background as a singer of Lieder and oratorio was hard enough to explain. But, when I began my career as a (then) "relief-announcer," on QXR, I went through something of an identity crisis. Finally, after seven years, when I became a staff announcer, I was also a producer, talk-show host, writer, cookbook author, and even engineer (of sorts). At some point I gave up and just said something like, I'm on the radio (to radio people), I write (to newspaper and magazine people), and I cook (to restaurateurs...) I never did admit I could run a "board," since most people didn't know what that was, anyway. The things I hated were, "She's a DJ..." and "She's a radio hostess," which made me sound like a Twinkie, or worse. Now, in my so-called "retirement," I just say whatever comes to mind at the time starting, as Edna suggests, with what makes sense to the other person. Or whatever I'm most excited about doing that particular day. "I'm married" is probably the best since I didn't do that the first time until the week I went on Medicare....
