Live! Backstage at the Royal Opera
The Guardian newspaper will stream live on its website scenes from backstage at the Royal Opera all day Monday, Jan 7. Royal Opera House website will also carry the feed. Following is an approximate schedule of events, UK time.
10:30 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. – rehearsals for Kasper Holten's new Eugene Onegin, his first production for the company.
10:45 a. m. - associate director John Fulljames will present a model of his new staging of La donna del lago.
11.30 a.m. --rehearsals for The Minotaur, opening Jan 17.
chorus call for new production of Nabucco.
1:30pm - Kasper Holten in discussion with Music Director Antonio Pappano.
6 p.m. - vocal masterclass with Pappano and a Jette Parker Young Artist.
7:30 p.m. - a many-angled look at the backstage action during a live performance, including Act 3 from Die Walküre, pre-recorded earlier in the season. Some 20 cameras capture the action from above the stage to the trap door, to the orchestra pit and the wings. Witness Bryn Terfel preparing to take to the stage, and special effects realized by the technical team.
