Handel & Haydn Society Gets $2 Million
The Handel and Handel Society, which will celebrate its bicentennial in 2015, has received two of its largest gifts ever, each for $1 million, each from a vice chair of its board of governors.
The gift from Jane and Wat Tyler will fund the Society’s chorus; that from Karen Levy will fund educational outreach. Wat Tyler, a board member of 15 years, is the former chair and CEO of IPS Corp and director of McKinsey & Co. He’s to be the honoree of H&H’s annual “Society Ball.”
Levy, an 18-year board member, is chair of the company’s education committee; indeed, the entire H&H educational program is named for her and her late husband, George.
In thanking the two donors, Executive Director and CEO Marie-Hélène Bernard, noted the monies' importance in the Society’s plan to “connect more deeply with our community.”
Said Artistic Director Harry Christophers, “We are lucky to have such dedicated supporters who can ensure our organization will remain strong for another 200 years and beyond.”
Boston-based H&H prides itself on being the country’s longest continuing performing arts group.
