Parthenia, a Consort of Viols Presents The Flaming Fire Concert on January 15

New York, NY  Parthenia, New Yorks premiere viol consort, will present The Flaming Fire, a special fundraising concert on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 8:00 PM at The Church of Saint Luke in the Fields, 487 Hudson Street at Grove in Manhattan. Special guests will be renowned countertenor Ryland Angel and Dongsok Shin on virginal.

Funds raised will go to the American Red Cross for New York metropolitan-area storm relief.

Repertoire will be royal music from 16th and 17th century Tudor and Stuart Courts. Marys Scotland selections will include composers James Lauder, Robert Johnson, John Angus, David Peebles and Robert Parsons. Elizabeths England selections will include music of John Bennet, Alfonso Ferrabosco, Renaldo Paradiso, Thomas Tallis, Christpher Tye and William Byrd. The program will also feature a new arrangement by Richard Einhorn of the Scottish folk tune Lament of Mary Queen of Scots. Parthenia is a dynamic quartet of viols which animates ancient and contemporary repertoires with a ravishing sound and a remarkable sense of ensemble.
