World Premiere of Solo Piano Music by David Winkler on January 4

New York, NY – David Winkler’s Mini-Sonatina for solo piano will be given its World Premiere by pianist Olga Vinokur on Friday, January 4 – 8:00 PM at Bargemusic, Fulton Ferry Landing in Brooklyn, New York, as part of their Here and Now series.
The composer writes about the work, “My "Mini-Sonatina" is a short, one movement work for piano composed especially for Olga Vinokur on the occasion of this program at Bargemusic. It was composed in November of 2012, after the completion of my Violin and Harp Duet and before my Piano Quintet for the Martha Argerich Project in Lugano Switzerland.”
Vinokur will be joined by pianist David Kalhous and violinist Pauline Kim for performances of Henrik Ajax’s Suite for piano 4 hands (US Premiere), Peter Fribbins’ Nocturne (US Premiere), Eric Moe’s Tendre Noix au Torchon for violin and piano (World Premiere), Andre Previn’s Tango Song and Dance for Violin and Piano (NY Premiere) and Thomas Palka’s Into Silence (World Premiere).

David Winkler earned his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree (composition) from Columbia University in New York City. He has composed over 200 works including four symphonies, six operatic works, two violin concertos, a piano concerto, a Double Concerto for Cello and Piano with Orchestra, various chamber concerti with string orchestra featuring: violin soloist, violin and piano soli, harpsichord, flute, etc. numerous song cycles, choral works, three string quartets, and numerous chamber music works including a recent piano quartet for the New York Philharmonic Ensembles.
Recent premieres include the “Warhol Appassionata” for The Verdehr Trio at the National Gallery in Washington, D.C., and “Tanyetz Spirituoso” with Anastasia Khitruk at the SoBe Arts Center in Miami, a new Concerto for Violin and Chamber Orchestra premiered by the Paris Chamber Orchestra in Dubai and South Korea and his 2nd Concerto for Violin and Symphony Orchestra premiered by Anna Rabinova and the Europa Philharmonie in Germany.
